A survey of Hoddesdon's market traders was conducted on Wednesday 29th July and Friday 31st July 2009.
Questionnaires were handed to every stallholder and there was a 50% response rate with the following results:
The duration during which the market stallholders have traded in the town ranged from 65 years for the greengrocery stall run by a father and son near the War Memorial, to five months for the confectionery stall.
The council charge for renting a pitch ranges between £15 and £56. At the cheapest end is the fast food van, with the card stall near the clock tower being most expensive.
Just over 50% of respondents rated the charge higher than other markets. The most competitive comparison was with Hitchin at £10, as opposed to Hoddesdon's £30.
The lack of on-hand electricity and the poor condition of the public toilets was raised.
80% of traders are in favour of the proposal to reintroduce through traffic to the High Street.
100% were in favour of free parking in the town, and deemed this essential to the town's survival. This was without being asked a specific question in the survey.
