A mere six months after Action4Hoddesdon was launched, due to the efforts of a small and dedicated band of people backed by over a thousand local residents we can claim a number of major victories:

  1. Preparatory roadworks are already taking place in the High Street in advance of it being re-opened to one way traffic early next month and providing 23 new FREE short term parking spaces and two disabled bays.
  2. At a meeting with representatives of Action4Hoddesdon on 5th November Broxbourne Council agreed to incorporate ALL the main points from The People’s Plan into the final version of their Hoddesdon Town Centre Plan due in January 2010.
  3. Having accepted our demand to make the demolition and re-development of the Tower Centre the engine for the revitalisation of the town last week Broxbourne Council set in train the process for them to take powers of Compulsory Purchase if a property developer were to come forward to want to buy the entire complex and re-build it.
  4. The Council is making bids for funding for proper signage on all approaches to the town and in the High Street and for grant money from the National Heritage Lottery Fund for additional large scale events next year.

Whilst these are important achievements IT IS ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL THAT WE DO NOT LET UP THE PRESSURE ON BROXBOURNE COUNCIL.

We also fully support the efforts of the Action for HOAP who are still battling to get Broxbourne Council to re-open the Hoddesdon Open Air Swimming Pool. You can find the latest details of their campaign at: www.savehoddesdonpool.co.uk
